Armen was even less than one, when his father, the head of the family left him and his mother. Dzhigarkhanyan was brought up by his mother and step-father, who was very caring to him. Armen graduated the school after Anton Chekhov in Yerevan.
The desire to become an artist came to Armen Dzhigarkhanyan in a rather early age.
Very often his decision was rather surprising for his teachers, as he was very good at Physics and Mathematics.

Armen Jigarkhanyan was admitted to Sundukyan State Academic Theatre in 1955. He studied in Armen Gulakyan’s class. He remembers and appreciates Armen Gulakyan very much and claims him to be the best teacher he ever had.
Later he started acting in Stanislavski Russian Theatre of Yerevan, where he remained about 10 years and played more that 30 roles. In 1967 he moved to Moscow and started his career in Lenkom theatre. Moving to Moscow gave him much more opportunities to become more successful and famous.
Sooner Armen Jigarkhanyan became one of the leading actors of Russian theatre. In 1969 he moved to Mayakovsky Theatre and remained there for 30 years.
Besides being an extremely talented actor, Armen Jigarkhanyan is also a good director. In 1996 he founded his own theatre named “Moscow Drama Theatre headed by Armen Dzhigarkhanyan”.
