The Urgent Reason Behind the Motive of Armenia Tree Project
Armenian Tree Project organization was founded in the cities of Watertown and Yerevan. The mission of this organization is to solve deforestation problems in Armenia. Unfortunately, deforestation issue is a huge problem in Armenia.
Sadly, the condition of Armenian green area hasn’t been restored much, so there was a strong need of a helping hand. Being a non-profit organization Armenia Tree Project is seeking for support in tree planting projects to make Armenia full of green area as it was once.
Armenia Tree Project has a rather long and fertile history. It was founded in 1994, when Armenia was in a terrible condition from the view of number of deforestation.
What Has Been Done So Far?
The founder of Armenia Tree project, Carolyn Mugar planted her first tree in Yerevan in 1994, with the hope to start a new era of greener and environmentally healthier Armenia.
If you get engaged in their activity more closely you will know that they are constantly organizing newer and fresher ideas and tree planting projects.
Besides tree planting project Armenian tree project is also engaged in providing proper environmental education to Armenian Society. This will help people to be more aware of the deforestation problems in Armenia, and undertake some steps for improving it.
The team believes that if each member of society be at least a bit aware about the real seriousness of the issue, they’ll probably undertake some steps to rescue the environment of their country.
The Work Done by Armenia Tree Project Deserves Appreciation!
Unfortunately, even today Armenia is under the danger of mass desertification. Every year thousands of trees are cut for the selfish purposes of different people or companies.
The current rate of deforestation problem is ranked very high. If we compare the area of forests before 1990-s and today, the difference is immense. As the process of deforestation continues till now, in 20 years the forests are likely to fully disappear in Armenia!
Today every year 500000 cubic meters of wood are burned for fuel. That means that every year over 4000 hectares of forests are cut for fuel and other purposes as well. Lack of education about the essential importance about forests value leads to such global deforestation problems.
The best trees are cruelly cut for construction, furniture making or export. There are some solutions to solve the deforestation problems. Though Armenia Tree Project highly concerned and engaged in deforestation problem, it’s not able to solve those problems.
These problems strongly depend on government, awareness of people and lot of other factors. The only thing Armenia Tree Project can do is to organize tree planting projects, engaging as much people as possible, and also give people the environmental education.
Day by day Armenia Tree Project gains more popularity and engages more people into their rows. Armenia Tree Project also successfully works on a poverty reduction, as it is one of the major factors of deforestation. People who cannot afford more expensive sources of fuel most frequently use wood as the cheapest source of fuel.

People were burning their furniture in order not to freeze in their apartments. It was not surprising that there might have been also great amount of deforestation during that period.
Carolyn determined to do her best for making Armenia’s once beautiful green environment reforested again. The organization was established as the Armenian Assembly of America project. It employs over 70 year-round workers and many temporary workers depending on the tree planting project.
Armenia tree project has created nurseries in different parts of Armenia. Various species of trees are grown in those nurseries. By the reforestation of once fertile, but now abandoned places, Armenia tree project also creates favorable conditions for animal life as well.
Currently Armenian tree project has 3 nurseries. The nurseries are situated in the villages Karin, Khachpar and Margahovit. The nursery in Margahovit is able to contain over one million tree seedings, which are later used for further tree planting projects.
