Armenian philharmonic orchestra tends to raise musical and cultural awareness of its audience. To achieve the goal, the orchestra frequently performs classical and operatic music besides contemporary and national ones.
The works of Armenian composers are featured quite often. Besides they tour regularly. To put it simply, the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra is the ambassador of local music around the world. Now the orchestra performs in Aram Khachaturyan Concert Hall. The hall is in the Opera House of Yerevan. It is one of the most remarkable architectural sites. It is all renovated as the initial design underwent some changes.
Today the concert hall may host 1300 people. By the way, it’s quite easy to find the hall. If it happens that you walk around the Opera House you may come across the monument of outstanding composer Aram Khachaturian.

How Was Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra Founded?
The full name of the orchestra is “The Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra”. The musical institution was founded in 1925 by Arshak Adamyan and Alexander Spendaryan.
Initially, it was established as a symphony orchestra operating in Yerevan State Conservatory. Today the Armenian philharmonic orchestra is quite popular. It has always been considered as one of the best orchestras in the region.
Within 92 years, the orchestra has represented mostly classical music. Steven Isserlis, Misha Mayski, David Oistrach, Julia Fischer and other world-leading musicians worked together with the orchestra.
Besides, the orchestra is known as the Armenian music Ambassador worldwide. It promotes folk music and composers during regular tours. Many remarkable Armenian soloist give concerts with this orchestra. Narek Hakhnazaryan, Kim Kashkashian, Sergey Khachatryan make the list.
Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra holds Yerevan International Music Festival every autumn. Internationally popular soloists take part in the festival, hold concerts and organize master-classes for young Armenian musicians.
The Artistic directors are Eduard Topchyan and Alexander Chaushian. The festival is held under the patronage of Rita Sargsyan- the First Lady of Armenia. Artistic Directors and Conductors of Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra
Throughout its history the orchestra has had many talented conductors and artistic directors. Eduard Topchyan is the current principal conductor and artistic director. This gifted Armenian studied violin in Yerevan. He specialized in conducting, having Ohand Duryan as his teacher.
He debuted in Armenian philharmonic orchestra in 2000. Topchayn was soon appointed as the principal conductor and artistic director. He is well known for appearing with operatic and orchestral music. “Madam Butterfly”, “Aida”, “Otherllo” and other compositions has been performed by him quite successfully.
The list of other remarkable conductors and artistic directors make Loris Tjeknavoryan, Vahagn Papyan, MIkayel Avetisyan, Martin Nersisyan and others.
Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra Performance #1: Tchaikovski
The orchestra has managed to travel most part of the world and astonish foreign audience. One of such performances was held in Prague in 2006. Eduard Topchyan conducted the orchestra.

Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra Performance #2: Sabre Dance
You have probably come across music “Sabre Dance” on YouTube performed by various artist. There is very important thing to know about it- the music is written by internationally recognized Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian.
Just because one of the core goals of this orchestra is to promote Armenian orchestral music, the orchestra performs this music quite often especially when on torus. This one was performed in the USA in 2015, conducted by Eduard Topchyan. As always it got the warmest welcome.
Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra Performance #3: Violin Concerto
Music festivals are core part of development of any orchestra. The music festival “Stars of the White Nights” was held in St. Petersburg in summer, 2016.

Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra Performance #4: Polovtsian Dance
In 2008 the orchestra had a tour in Japan. As always happens, Eduard Topchyan was the conductor and the orchestra performed “Polovtsian Dance” by Alexander Borodin.
