Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture was founded in 1945. The post war period appeared to be rather difficult for Armenian social-economic life. There was a great need of highly qualified specialists.
So, the essence of physical health and sport among Armenian younger generation the institute was finally established. The main aim of the institute was to take the standards of Armenian physical culture to higher levels.

The graduates of Armenian State University of physical culture have represented Armenia in Olympic games not once, and have won 12 gold, 10 silver and 4 bronze medals. The building of Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture is rather large and equipped with modern educational and academic laboratories 10 sport halls and also a football field.
After the 4 year-study the graduates get bachelor degree and are given a diploma. Those who want to get masters degree have to continue their study another year. The average prices of the institute vary from 360000 AMD ($750) a year for stationary students and 340000 AMD ($700) for extramural students.
Though, choosing extramural leaning you’ll have to wait a year longer for getting diploma, as the study process lasts 5 years in this case. The entrance process is not complicated. After introducing all necessary documents, the applicant has to pass the exams. The exams will determine whether the applicant has entered or not. The exams are held on the basis of free competition.

Gagik Tsarukyan called himself a businessman, though very often his name is also associated with oligarchy. Leading a luxurious lifestyle and living in large mansion makes the image of Gagik Tsarukyan especially vivid and much talked about.
Gagik Tsarukyan is also a philanthropist. Gagik Tsarukyan has been involved in politics for many years. Having graduated the university, Gagik Tsarukyan was mainly engaged in boxing, wrestling and Arm-wrestling.
In 1996, Gagi Tsarukyan was given the title of the world champion in arm-wrestling and champion of Europe in 1998. By the way, Gagik Tsarukyan is the present president of Armenian National Olympic committee. Karen Asrian is another renowned grandmaster. Karen graduated Armenian State Institute of physical culture in 2001. At the age 17, Karen was already a grandmaster.
Karen won Armenian championship in 1999, 2007 and 2008. He gained a huge popularity from the beginning of his professional career. Unfortunately, Karen died at a rather early age from heart attack.
Armenian State University of Physical Culture Alumni #5: Aghvan Chatinyan
Aghvan Chatinyan s a famous mountaineer and former Soviet champion. He was a Caucasus rock climbing champion for several times. Chatinyan graduated Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture in 1952.
In the same year, Karginyan took the first place in Caucasus rock climbing championship and defeated legendary soviet climber Mikhael Khergiani. What’s so interesting, that this fact was never mentioned anywhere except a soviet newspaper communist. The reason was not to overshadow the fame of famous soviet climber Mikhael Kergiani.
