Garik Martirosyan’s First Steps in Show-business after Working in a Psychiatric Hospital
Garik Martirosyan was born on February 14, 1974 in Yerevan, Armenian SSR, Soviet Union. His real date of birth is February 13. However, the actor’s parents were too superstitious about the numeral 13. So, they just changed the date.
But this is only the beginning! Do you know what university he enrolled in after graduating from school? In 2002, the comedian graduated from Yerevan State Medical University with a degree in neurology.
Two extremes in one person- a neurologist and comedian! He even worked in a psychological hospital for three years. But being a showman was his vocation and he had to pick up that path!
Garik Martirosyan was a member of the “New Armenians” team of the Russian TV show KVN from 1993 to 2002.
He moved to Moscow. In 2003 with the help of fellow New Armenians Artur Janibekyan and Artash Sarksyan he founded Comedy Club.
Together with Larisa Dolina he won the Two Stars TV show as a singer. He hosted the first two seasons of “Minuta Slavy”, Russian version of “America’s Got Talent” on Channel One.
He met his wife Zhanna Levina in Sochi during their plays in KVN. They have a daughter Jasmine and a son Daniel. His most famous movies are “Univer”, “Nasha (Our) Russia”.
Garik Martirosyan on TV
Garik Martirosyan first appeared on TV in 1997. He was the screenwriter of the program called “Good Night”. As for his singing talent, it was discovered during the TV show ‘Two Stars”.
The rules of the show were the following: Contestants were performing in couples. One of them was a professional singer, the other was not a singer. There were many singing couples, among whom Garik and his partner Larisa were the strongest. He won the competition when singing with famous Russian singer Larisa Dolina.
TV program “Time for Glory” made the comedian and the singer a TV host. A year later he started his acting career in the comedy “Nasha Russia” produced by “Comedy Club Production”. He was acting as Rubink who was an operator. So, wherever Martirosyan appeared jokes and fun were inevitable.
His Glory Started from KVN Team “New Armenians”
The year of 1993 was turning point in Garik Martirosyan’s life. He joined the squad of KVN (KVN is the Russian abbreviation for Club for the Lightheaded and Quick-witted). Then together with other Armenians he founded the team of “New Armenians”.
So, the comedian spent all his free time on playing in KVN and obviously made money by making humor. At the end of the 90s, Garik Martirosyan became the screenwriter of the team. Then he stopped performing on the stage and brought his contribution to the team as a producer.
In a nutshell, Martirosyan dealt with the squad of New Armenians for about ten years. During that period, the team became the champion of Higher League, got the Summer Cup twice.
The actor himself finds the years spend with KVN as a true experience. As there was war in Armenia in the 90s, and “there was nothing else to do but cheer ourselves up” notices Garik Martirosyan.

Comedy Club is a Russian humorous TV show that has started since 2005. It was established by group of KVN “New Armenians”. It mixes three genres of standup, humor and satire.
Garik Martirosyan was the producer of the show. Meanwhile, he performed on the stage. He became one of the favs of Russian youth.
When talking about the foundation of the show the comedian is very short about it! He states that the whole team took part in creating it! However, he was the main source of this successful project! Very humble person, isn’t he?
It was found out that the residents of the club (this is how they call themselves) didn’t appear on TV with their jokes at once. Their project was just resting on tables for over a year before it was looked through.
Their acute jokes were not accepted for a while. But fortunately, the project was approved. Now roam in the streets! It doesn’t matter you are in Yerevan or Moscow, ask passers-by about Comedy Club. Everybody knows and loves the show regardless their age or gender!
