Yerevan – the capital of Republic of Armenia is known as a “Garden City” as it has a great number of parks that attract tourists from different countries when they visit Armenia. This Lovers’ Park Yerevan, Armenia, is called “Siraharneri Aygi” in Armenian.
This modern and very cosy park is situated on the Baghramyan Avenue, which is named after then Armenian military commander and marshal, Hovhannes Baghramyan, in the central Kentron district of Yerevan.
The park is actually a favorite place for couples, dating, taking wedding pictures and concerts, yet, tourists are welcome to stay there for some rest too.

The name of the Lovers Park Yerevan, Armenia
The origin of Lovers’ Park, Yerevan, dates back to the 18th century. At that time, it was actually known as Kozern Park and was named after the Kozern district, which was a northwestern suburb of old Yerevan.
In 1949, the park was renamed “Pushkin Park” as it was the 150th anniversary of of the birth of well-known Russian poet, “Alexander Pushkin”. In 1970, the park was renamed Barekamutyun (Frinedship) as a sign of respect to the friendship of Soviet Union member nations.
In the end of 20th century, after declaring the independence of Republic of Armenia, then Yerevan City Council’s civil representatives, according to the decision of the presidency, decided to rename the park as “Lovers’ Park Yerevan” as it was already used a place for many couple to meet.
Some highlights of history of Lovers Park Yerevan
Renovation of the Lovers’ Park Yerevan
Between 2006 and 2010, the Boghossian Foundation undertook the designing and renovating the park. As the park had been in a state of abandon until that time, it required great landscaping works.
The restoration of Lovers’ Park was made according to the design of Pierre Rambach, who was a Swiss landscape architect as well as involved in many different works of eastern style gardens all around the world.
Rambach visited Armenia several times and during his stay in Armenia, he carefully explored the landscapes and managed to find the best solutions to combine principles of rigorous Japanese landscaping and Armenian spirits. (The idea of the park was inspired b the sony mountainous landscapes of Armenia, entailing the sense of freedom an serenity).
Monumental sculptures of the Park
In recent years, there have been installed new sculptures in the part, which has made it more attractive for visitors. In 2010, the statue of prominent Armenian poet, “Gevorg Emin”, was installed in the park. It was Ashot Armyan who designed the sculpture.
Then, in 2011, the Boghossian Foundation invited a well-known contemporary French artist, Jean-Michel Othoniel, to travel in Armenia in order to design a new monumental work for Lovers’ Park.
On 24the, May 2014, the Boghossian Foundation introduced a sculpture by Othoniel, which was made entirely from obsidian and seems to burst out from the water. The shape of the sculpture symbolizes the country itself, the materials symbolize the power of fire, and the place where it was installed stands for permanence.

The Lovers’ Park is open always throughout year. In the evening, there are a lot of couples enjoying the pleasant atmosphere and some of you do not feel like seeing many couples kissing each other. So, in this case, visiting there is recommended during the daytime.

Unfortunately, the Lovers Park Yerevan has no steps to enable the access of wheelchairs. So, for those who are physically challenging, this park is not an ideal palce to spend their time.

In addition, the Cascade Yerevan, which is a giant stairway, can be found. You can look over the entire Yerevan as well as Mount Ararat when it is sunny. In front of the Cascade is the Statue of Alexander Tamanyan – an Armenian neoclassical architect who had designed the city of Yerevan.
