Shopping for food and other products in supermarkets is widely spread in the world.
During last decades, several supermarket chains have emerged in Armenia, including the second largest of them, SAS Supermarkets. Why should you visit SAS and what can you find there? Let’s explore together.
SAS Supermarkets: The Beginning
In post-soviet countries, the phenomenon of supermarkets, large shops offering a variety of products with special attributes like carts and cashiers, were not the most popular places for shopping.

However, things have started to change during the last couple of decades, as supermarkets became popular, especially in large cities like Yerevan.
One of the largest supermarket chains in Armenia was created by SAS Group. The first supermarket was founded back in 1995 in Amiryan street. It was founded by Aram and Artak Sargsyan brothers.
Soon the small supermarket in the center of Yerevan became popular and new ones were opened in other parts of the city. Today you can encounter them all over Yerevan.
SAS Supermarket: What is Unique About It?
SAS supermarkets not only sell goods, but also propose products of their own production.
Sweets and pastry, made in SAS since 1998, are very popular. The advantages of buying SAS supermarket’s own production include the high quality, assurance in the freshness of the products.
SAS Sweets include a variety of delicious pastry, pies and cakes. You may buy a piece of something sweet to eat on go, if you’re hungry wandering around the city, or you may buy a whole cake for a special occasion or as a gift to a friend you are going to visit.
Make sure to taste some sweets popular in Armenia, like “Pahlava of Gavar” (a sweet Eastern cake with lots of honey and walnuts), Gata (traditional Armenian cake), “Bird’s Milk” (popular cake with cream), or “Anthill”.

Although Armenians like making their food themselves, people may sometimes buy dishes. For instance, salads, from SAS for their special occasions, if they are expecting a large number of guests and don’t have the time for cooking everything themselves.
As SAS ready-made food became so popular, in December 2015, SAS decided to open a food court, where people can try a large range of Armenian and European dishes for reasonable prices.

SAS Supermarket: The Biggest One
There are seven SAS supermarkets in Yerevan today. The largest of them is “SAS supermarket” on Isahakyan street, located in front of the metro station “Yeritasardakan”.
The supermarket is a two-floor separate building in the center of Yerevan. The products range from basic food to gifts, and to make it easier for you to find what you want, the first and the second floors offer different types of goods.
The first floor of the supermarket is dedicated to food products with a rich range of all the products, offered in SAS supermarkets chain.
Here you can buy sweets and other products made in SAS Supermarkets. On the second floor, you can encounter household items, gifts and essentially all the things, you can’t eat.
The location of the supermarket makes it convenient to get there from any part of the city. There is a metro station (Yeritasardakan) right in front of the supermarket. There are also numerous minibuses, passing that are, as it is located nearly in the heart of the city, and there are many universities near the place, so transport infrastructure is well developed here. If you want, you can, of course, take a taxi and tell the taxi driver to take you to the two-floor SAS supermarket.
SAS Supermarket or SAS.am?
Sas.am is the first Armenian online supermarket. It offers up-to-date information about thousands of products available in SAS supermarkets. You can search, choose and order any of the products to be delivered to your door. This is an innovative approach to shopping, as buying goods online is not customary in Armenia.
The web page is very easy to use. It has a convenient catalogue in categories of Food products and SAS Home (products for household), which are divided into many sub-categories, making it extremely easy for you to find the product you are looking for.
Once you’ve entered the category needed, you can use several filters. After choosing the product you want, you need to simply click on it and add it to your cart. You may also add a list of favorite products.
To order a product you need to undergo a simple log in procedure.
You can order online or by telephone, though online is more preferable.
