Travel hacks and tips are very important. If you plan your travel in advance and use vital travel hacks, we assure that you’ll have an unforgettable time and in case of accidents, you’d be prepared to handle them properly.
Traveling is one of the biggest dreams that many people have. Almost everyone has a list of countries or places they would like to visit one day. It is an activity that brings joy, wonderful memories, and fun adventures.
However, traveling can be extremely expensive, and a little scary at first, especially if you plan to travel alone. There are many people out there who would dream of traveling, but because of the fear of the unknown, miss out on many opportunities to do so.
Whether or not you have traveled before, and if you consider yourself a traveling expert, it is always important to know a few travel hacks which can help make the experience all the more worthwhile.
Here is a list of smart travel hacks and tips which can help make any of your future travels more interesting and fun. Remember- expect the unexpected and do not be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone. These are perhaps the two most key tips to traveling. Here are some other important travel hacks and tips.
Travel Hacks #1 | Purchase a portable phone charger
This may seem like a meaningless tip, but it is truly something worth buying. When you are traveling, you will need to use your phone or tablet a lot, because you will be taking a lot of pictures, surfing the web, contacting family and friends, and browsing social media.
Sometimes, the place you will be staying will have different style outlets that will not be able the fit the plug on your charger, or you will be out and about in an airport or tourist attraction and will find that your phone needs to be charged.
Having a portable phone charger on you will definitely be an advantage and will save you from a lot of trouble. There are portable phone chargers out there which are available for pretty cheap, meaning you will not have to spend a lot of money that you could have otherwise used for souvenirs or traveling.
Travel Hacks #2 | Learn a few phrases in the native language of the country you will be visiting
There is a famous phrase, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” This basically means that you should try and follow the customs of the place where you will be traveling. This includes trying to be courteous and learning several words of the official language of the country you will be traveling to.
If you will be traveling to a country where you do not speak the language or it has a different native language than your own, it is worth learning a few key phrases in the language of the country you will be traveling in cases of an emergency, or to show that you are courteous and respectful.
Do not travel overseas expecting everyone to speak English- this is pretty ignorant and something that many people hate about Americans especially.
Travel Hacks #3 | Keep extra copies of your important documents with you
This includes your passport, driver’s license, other forms of ID, birth certificate, and other important documents which you may take with you while you travel. Make sure you have taken scans of these documents and sent them to yourself.
While we all assume that bad things will not happen to us, there is no guarantee. Therefore, it is highly possible that you can lose any of these documents.
While it may seem like a hassle, having copies of any of these documents on you can really help you out in case you lose them.
Travel Hacks #4 | Have extra cash with you
Do not take thousands of dollars in cash with you, but having, say, 300 dollars can really save your butt in cases of an emergency.
There are also some countries around the world where people tend to pay in cash a lot more often than they pay with credit or debit cards.
Having some cash on you- and stashing all of the cash separately in different places, in case you are the unfortunate victim of a pickpocketer, so they don’t steal all of your cash at once- can really help you out if there is an emergency or if you can’t find an ATM where you are.
Travel Hacks #5 | Take lots of pictures
There are some people who make fun of those who take lots of selfies and constantly have their phones out, but please do not let these people discourage you.
If you are on a trip, you are bound to want to take a lot of pictures to highlight all of the adventures you have been on. This is perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and you will not want to forget any of the places you have traveled to.
Make sure you have a good quality camera or phone with you and take as many pictures as you would like while you are away. This may seem obvious, but there are some people who may be embarrassed to do so. Don’t be!
And while we’re at it, do not be embarrassed to ask people around you to take your picture for you. You may be shy to do it, but you may end up with a photo that will last a lifetime.
Travel Hacks #6 | Take headache medicine
Make sure you have some headache medicine with you. You never know when a headache may pop up, and it may occur at a time when there is no drugstore or pharmacy around you for you to buy some.
Take some headache medicine with you that you are comfortable with using. You are allowed to take prescription or over-the-counter medicine with you in either your carry-on or checked luggage in unlimited amounts.
Travel Hacks #7 | Make sure you read up on baggage guidelines and rules
While there are some rules which are obvious, some may not be as obvious as others, such as the rules on taking liquids with you (as many liquids as you like, which would fit into a quart-sized bag, as long as the liquids are less than 3.4 ounces, or 100 milliliters).
Make sure you check up on how many kilograms or pounds the luggage you take with you is allowed to be, and how many carry-ons you can take with you.
You don’t want to end up having to stand much longer in the security lines than you already have to because you packed something which wasn’t allowed in your luggage.
You also don’t want to end up spending hundreds of dollars extra because you took more baggage than you were supposed to or because your luggage was heavier than the airline allowed.
Travel Hacks #8 | Make lots of lists
Whether it be lists on your travel itinerary, phone numbers, places you would like to visit, items you brought with you so that you don’t forget them, shopping lists- make sure that you make lots of lists.
This will help ensure that you do not forget any information that was necessary and that you have everything organized.
It can save you a lot of time in the future when you try to remember all of the things you brought with you or all of the places you planned to visit on the spot.
Travel Hacks #9 | Download apps such as Google Translate and Google Maps
These apps are truly handy when you want to travel to someplace you have never been before. You can download them on your phone or tablet and make sure to download these apps for offline use, in case you are somewhere where you cannot use the internet or where your mobile plan does not work.
Google Translate is great if you will be traveling somewhere where you do not understand the language (again, try to make sure you understand a few phrases and words, but no one expects you to speak the language with complete fluency).
It also offers the options of speaking into the microphone or taking pictures of phrases to translate. While Google Translate is not always accurate, you can try and understand the gist of what is being said.
As far as Google Maps, you can type in the address of the location you would like to visit, and can find easy directions on how to get there, whether you will be walking or driving. These can be complete lifesavers when you are going on a trip.
Travel Hacks #10 | Don’t be afraid to try new things
Last but most certainly not least, do not be afraid of trying new things. There is a whole world out there for you to explore. There are many fun adventures to be had if you break out of your comfort zone.
Be sure to try new foods while you are traveling, visit places you never would have thought to visit, and even make new friends who are locals or fellow tourists.
When you break out of your comfort zone, you can make some of the best memories. Make sure to have lots of fun while you are traveling and don’t stress out too much.
This is the prime time for you to relax and create memories which will last a lifetime.
