TUMO Center for Creative Technologies is a technology learning center based in Yerevan, Armenia. It opens the doors to thousands of students who want to learn anything about technology and art between the age of 12 and 18.

What Does TUMO Center Do & Who are the Initiators?
The TUMO Center for Creative Technologies is a digital media learning center in Armenia.
This new kind of after-school learning environment gives thousands of Armenian teenagers an opportunity to explore the intersection of technology and art, learn from media professionals and use the latest digital tools.
TUMO’s grand opening took place on August 14, 2011, with an open-air concert featuring Armenian rock musicians Serj Tankian and the Dorians.
Actually, when the date and venue of concert was announced, hundreds of people gathered at Tumanyan Park with some blurry idea about TUMO.
One thing that was clear for everyone was the choice of the center’s name. TUMO sits at the end of Yerevan’s Tumanyan Park named after the Armenian children’s author and advocate, Hovhannes Tumanyan.
In short Armenians call this park “TUMO”. Since 2011 “TUMO” is more than the short name of Yerevan park.
By the way, System of a Down’s lead vocalist Serj Tankian is among one of the professional members of TUMO’s Board of Advisors along with,

What Do TUMO Center’s Students Learn?
Now the most important question! What do students learn in TUMO and why are they lucky to learn here?
Due to TUMO’s flexible learning system and program, students have a chance to learn about what they LOVE.
Students pick a combination of focus areas and complementary fields based on their preferences and interests.
The main four focus areas include:
- Game development
- Web development
- Digital media
As they progress in their courses they can concentrate on one of them so, they can continue and practice the selected path.
TUMO also offers education in a variety of complementary fields which serve to enrich the students’ overall educational experience. These complementary fields are the following.
- Graphic Design
- 3D Modeling
- Online Literacy
The learning process is also accompanied by various useful workshops, lectures and other events that inspire and help students expand their learning horizons.
After graduation TUMO does not issue diplomas. However, they help students develop a portfolio chock-full of all the projects and various workshops they’ve participated in.
How Much is the Tuition Fee in TUMO Center?
Now perhaps one of the most important questions that interests all parents! How much does it cost to attend TUMO Center?
Yes, seems unbelievable, doesn’t it? If you are an Armenian between the ages 12 and 18 and want to be a TUMO student, all you need to do is call your local center and leave your full name, age, and phone number and they will call you back with a good time to come in and register.
Then you just need to come with a parent or guardian to register. Don’t forget to take the guardian’s and your birth certificate or passport.
Where is TUMO Center Located & Are Tours in TUMO Possible?
The TUMO Center is situated along the Hrazdan River gorge, adjacent to Tumanyan Park, one of the largest green areas in Yerevan which is maintained and managed by TUMO.
The TUMO Plaza is an innovative outdoor space made up of large, triangulated surfaces and packed with water features: a reflective pool, a large historic fountain equipped with hundreds of LED lights, and a playful pop-up fountain.
The park is equipped with a range of sports and recreational facilities, including a basketball court and a football field.
All you need to do for seeing this cutting-edge building is to schedule a tour.

Tumo staff will contact you to arrange your visit within a week.
Now all you need to do is to pick up a taxi. Oops, forgot the exact location of TUMO? Again, no need to worry! Just ask the driver to take you to TUMO.
One word to remember and in several minutes (depending on your location) you will see the TUMO plaza.
In case you are not short of time you can use public transport as well. No matter where the bus stop is, you will just need $ 0.20 in your pocket to get there.

Did You Know Which Celebrities Visited TUMO Center?
Many world-renowned people visited TUMO Center for Creative Technologies during their stay in Armenia.
- For example, an American actor, George Clooney visited TUMO center after landing in Yerevan. Clooney took a tour of the center, listened to a music session and took a few selfies with the students.
- In 2015 International superstar and 21-time Grammy award winning musician, Kanye West visited TUMO Center. He toured the center and got acquainted with TUMO’s learning programs.
- During his tour Armenian singer, songwriter Charles Aznavour visited the drawing workshop, listened to TUMO band, Tmba Ta sing some classic Armenian tunes and watched animations created by Yelling Animation Studio dedicated to the Armenian Genocide.

Did You Know about TUMO’s Initiative of Digital Education for Young Military Soldiers and Officers?
In May, 2017, thanks to the joint initiative between the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies and the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Armenia, the Artsakh phase of the TUMO Army program was launched.
About 150 soldiers from nearby bases have attended the center through the pilot program.
The participants will gain skills in computer programming, robotics, graphic design and digital music composition.
The skills acquired here will make Armenian soldiers more competitive both while they are serving in the Army and once they return to civilian life.
The program aims to discover the full potential of soldiers who might not otherwise have the possibility of developing their areas of interest outside of formal educational institutions.
Did You Know That the Mayor of Paris Wants to Open TUMO Center Branch in Paris?
Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris has intentions to open a TUMO center in Paris. This is what she said after visiting TUMO.
In fact, TUMO’s management has already been to the Paris City Hall twice to work out the details of the TUMO Paris project.
Let’s wait and see when TUMO’s next branch will open.
Did You Know That TUMO Can Be Fun Also for Those Who are Not Students!
Even if you aren’t TUMO student, make sure, TUMO has a lot to offer for non-students like you. TUMO organizes public events that are free and open to the community including Film Fridays, International Yoga Day and community lectures.
In addition to these public events, TUMO co-organizes and hosts some events in collaboration with different festivals, such as the Golden Apricot and ReAnimania.
But that’s not all! TUMO has successfully launched the initiative called Camp TUMO, a summer program that invites students from around the globe to come to Yerevan and enjoy their days filled with fun and education.
Success Stories of TUMO Center for Creative Technologies
Success Story #1 | FIRST Global Robotics Competition and Talented TUMO Students
Washington, July, 2017! Armenian media is filled with articles announcing the success of Armenian team who won the 3rd place in FIRST Global Robotics competition among 161 countries.
The initiative brought attention to the global challenge of providing clean drinking water. Robots needed to collect plastic balls from the center of the field, sort the blue ones (representing clean water) from the orange ones (representing contaminants), and deposit them according to color.
TUMO Center in Yerevan was the home of Team Armenia where they designed, built, and tested their remote-controlled robot in preparation for the competition.
Before the competition seven 15-18-year-olds were selected to travel to Washington for the competition, including:
- Levon Balagyozyan (Team Captain)
- Lilit Tarumyan (Spokesperson)
- Maria Ter Minasyan (Spokesperson)
- Ashot Tarumyan
- Tigran Sahakyan
- Davit Hovhanisyan
- Aram Madantsyan
They shared the champions’ podium with Team Europe and Team Poland who won gold and silver respectively.
Success Story #2 | TUMO Center Startups
There are tons of reasons that make TUMO stand out from other standard colleges. Now we will concentrate on one of these reasons.
- The skills gained at TUMO are not meant to be purely theoretical. Instead they are intended to be applied in practice.
- Thanks to this very peculiarity, despite their young age, TUMO students and graduates work in the best companies of Armenia.
- Besides, they establish and operate start-up companies such as Marimba Games, Ardēan and Yelling Animation.
- Marimba is a mobile game development team, while Ardēan is a center for art, architecture and design.
- Originally established at the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in collaboration with talented Armenian youth, Ardēan has grown into an independent, innovative company, spearheading modern design in Armenia.
- Yelling Animation is also powered by TUMO Center for Creative Technologies. Their passion is 2D, stop-motion and classic hand-drawn animation.
TUMO Center Expands in Different Corners of Armenia & Artskah
Since its establishment, TUMO Center for Creative Technologies became the most favorite educational institutions among more than 7000 Armenian teenagers who are creative, hard-working and think out of the box.
Anyway, TUMO was still a dream for many kids who lived in various Armenian cities or villages and because of distance couldn’t come to Yerevan several times a week.
So, TUMO Center went to them!
TUMO Center in Dilijan
This dream called “TUMO” came to reality for residents of Dilijan in 2013.
The center operates in the Knowledge for Development Center, the local library building reconstructed by the Central Bank.
It is equipped with 29 workstations and currently serves more than 400 teenagers enrolled in the program who come from Dilijan and other adjacent rural areas.
TUMO Center in Gyumri
On May 25, 2015, the TUMO Gyumri center was opened in Gyumri, the second largest city in Armenia.
The establishment of third branch was the result of cooperation between TUMO and Armenian General Benevolent Union though the idea was initiated by Shant TV.
The idea to establish TUMO Center in Gyumri was supported by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.
There are now over 1500 students at the center, residing in and around Gyumri who have the exceptional opportunity to learn 21st century skills to utilize in promising fields of IT.
TUMO Center in Stepanakert, The Capital of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)
As a result of continued cooperation with the Armenian General Benevolent Union and support from Karabakh Telecom, the newest TUMO branch opened in Stepanakert in the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, in September 2015.
The official opening ceremony of the center was attended by the Presidents of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, Serzh Sargsyan and Bako Sahakyan.
The Stepanakert center has a capacity of 1,000 students.
