The UWC college was officially opened on 11 October, 2014 (for the 2014-2015 academic year), due to collaboration of the philanthropists Ruben Vardanyan and Veronika Zonabend and their partners, private individuals and organizations.

UWC system was founded in 1962 to bring together young people from all over the world and offer “an educational experience based on shared learning, collaboration and understanding”.

In UWC Dilijan College, young people study under The International Bachelor Diploma Programme (IBDP). It’s an assessed programme for students aged from 16 to 19, respected by leading universities across the globe.
Students study the IBDP Core (Theory of Knowledge, Creativity, Action & Service, and the Extended Essay) as well as six subjects chosen from a wide range of different subjects, usually offered at Standard or Higher Level.
The diploma is based on a point system. Get ready for some sophisticated information!
Each subject is graded on a scale of 1 to 7, whether it is at Standard or Higher Level, and the Core subjects can earn a further 3 points, so 45 (6*7+3) points are available in total. Students must attain 24 points to pass the diploma and earn at least 12 on their three Higher Level subjects.
Shortly about the IBDP core subjects: Theory of Knowledge permeates the curriculum and leads to a critical analysis of all subjects. The Extended Essay is a supervised, student-researched 4000-word report on a topic chosen by the student. CAS, which stands for Creativity, Action, Service, is a key component of education in UWC, where service is central.
Other subjects, taught in the College, include Languages (English, German, Russian, and Spanish), Economics, History, Philosophy, Global Politics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Theatre, Visual Arts and Music. As you can see, there is a wide variety of subjects to choose from!
Higher Level subjects are taught for 7 x 40-minutes periods per week, while Standard Level subjects are taught for 4 x 40-minute periods per week.

Admission Process at UWC Dilijan
To participate in the selection process, candidates must submit a complete set of documents, including a fully completed application form, letters of reference and academic record to the UWC National Committee in their country of residence within the required timeframe.
During the entrance tests, the National Committee must ensure that the candidate meets the selection criteria of the UWC programme. All the necessary information is available at the UWC webpage (www.uwc.org).
Studying in UWC Dilijan is not a cheap pleasure. The combined tuition and residential fees for 2016-2017 are estimated to be $35,000 per annum, but the college administration aims to make it possible for all selected students to attend the college, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Most students receive full or partial scholarships. However, scholarships do not cover travel costs to and from the college, so, these costs, as well as students’ out-of-pocket expenses during their time at college, are covered by their parents.
