The Republic Square Yerevan is the main square of Yerevan. It is located right in the heart of Yerevan. When Alexander Tamanyan (the architect of Yerevan back then) was designing Yerevan, he initially thought that it should have the form of the sun. So, actually, if you look at the map of Yerevan, you will see that the Republic Square is the sun itself and the streets going from it represent the sun rays.
This place is remarkable because it is the home for the Government of Republic of Armenia as well as the Museum of History of Armenia. There is also the main clock of Armenia on the wall of the Government building that has become a place for most people to meet others, as it is easy to find and everybody knows where it is.
Also, during summer evenings, the singing fountains start the performance which is absolutely amazing and attracts thousands of people every evening (tourists as well as locals).
The fountains are a must-see if you visit Armenia in summer.
